For all the fans of DOTA (Defenders of the ancients), there is another new game out there called heroes of newerth. This standalone game borrows much from DOTA with better graphics, easier hot skill keys, and some of the heroes. Heroes of Newerth brings another dimension of gameplay that DOTA players can adapt. I have heard about this game from my friend.

But is this game truly worth trying?

Heroes of Newerth is currently in BETA stage and you can quickly get a hold of the BETA Key from their website located on this link. If you run out of beta keys available, then let me show you my experience in playing this game.

Heroes of Newerth (from Leakerz)

Graphics: The graphics of this game compared to DOTA is much better. However, familiarity will have to take time as though the map looks exactly like the one in DOTA, everything else is different from the characters and items.

Gameplay: From the characters that I have played, all have similar hot keys used so memorizing it is no problem. A very confusing part would be the items as all of it have been renamed and icons have been changed as well. This will take some learning curve to getting used to. One good improvement is the ability to buy the ingredients of the recipe easily by just clicking on the recipe, you can already buy the ingredients from there.

Characters: Totally different. Although characters have been borrowed from DOTA, the look and feel of using these characters as well as their respective abilities are not the same. I have tried to play the Gondar version in this game and there is a lot of getting used to especially the timings of using the character’s abilities.

Gaming Experience: I am playing against a bunch of players worldwide. There’s not much communication going on in the game, which is a downside. Without much communication from my experience, then a lot will be hanging on perception and insight to your teammates’ game and thoughts.

Overall, Heroes of Newerth is worth a try. If you feel like playing this game, then go ahead.
